P & C Railroad Version 4 - Layout Design
02/06/2003
This diagram shows the track plan for this N-scale layout. It is a double-track main line freelanced, but based on the Pennsylvania Railroad in between Harrisburg and Pittsburg. A roundhouse and turntable in area A is followed by classification tracks in area B. From there the track goes around to various towns and cities. A large coal mine is planned in area N. Areas S and T represent the other end of the line, with a branchline continuing on to areas U and V.
Layout Design
The layout will be built on a collection of custom-built cabinets that are going to be bolted together. This makes them movable and reusable. Most cabinets will be 18 inches deep, except for the ones in the closets of the two bedrooms, where the cabinets will be 4 inches deep to allow for a walkway between the two rooms.
Layout Design
This diagram shows the side and front view of a section of cabinet and layout space.
Layout Design
The above-the-layout lighting system is shown in the next diagram. The overhead lighting cabinets will be mounted to the ceiling.
Layout Design
This is a 3-D design of the cabinets, with a workbench put in between them in the second room.
Layout Design
Here the diagram has the layout benchwork built on top of the cabinets.
