I cut out the space in the sub-roadbed where the plate girder bridge will be installed. I then cast the bridge abutments. They are not yet glued down in the next photo. I painted the ceiling tile my base color. I used a thin strip of Masonite board, clamped it in place and marked off where the ties are to go.
Next, I cut and glued the wooden ties for this section of the layout. I used a strip of Masonite board to bend and flex it so as to get a smooth-flowing curve. I then marked the line with a pencil and laid the ties up against that pencil line.
The bridge's abutments are now painted and weathered. I then installed the bridge, and installed the ties on the bridge. For more information about the bridge, see my construction article. I just finished staining the ties for this section of the layout.
