I decided it might be fun to scratch-build the PRR FM flat car. Funaro & Camerlengo had previously produced an S-scale model of this car. However, it is long out of production. Also, the reviews of the kit weren't glowing. I had previously scratch-built the PRR H21a hopper, which was a challenging project. This time around I decided to challenge myself by building three cars at the same time, albeit with a simpler car to build. This is the finished car, painted, decals applied, and fairly heavily weathered to show years of use. Note that when I built these flat cars, I did not have the Pennsylvania Railroad Flat Cars book written by Elden Gatwood and Al Buchanan, which contains a lot of prototype information about this car. Follow the link to learn more about the prototype version of this car upon which this model is based.
