Canonsburg Light & Fuel

John Budke formed this company in 1905 after the first gas-extraction well in Canonsburg was created on the Canonsburg Iron & Steel Iron Works property. Some of the gas was sold to the PRR to power the passenger station. A second well was drilled on the farm of W. S. White, one-quarter mile north of the mill and it had a very heavy pressure. You can see some of the tall, pyramid-like structures in the drawing below. In 1920 a plant was added to make gasoline from natural gas in the area.
