An American Flyer train set for Christmas early in the author's life started a life-long love for the hobby. In the process he learned how to save his money to buy what he wanted, and sometimes regretting what he had bought when he saw something he liked more. Rediscovering the A.F. catalogs years later sparked the interest in the hobby again as an adult, who is now into restoring old A.F. equipment.
