OS from S Tower

The editor is proposing the idea of creating a "Great Model Railroads" magazine that only features S-scale layouts. One such magazine would be for standard- and narrow-gauge "scale" layouts, and a second such magazine could be for A.F. and hi-rail layouts.

Convention Report

The 2011 NASG Convention was held in conjunction with the 2011 NMRA Convention and NTS Train Show in Sacramento, California. Includes photos of layouts, attendees, contest models, etc.

Slim Gauge Observations

The author reports on the 31st National Narrow Gauge Convention which was held in Hickory, North Carolina on September 7-10, 2011. Includes a few photos of S-related items at the show.

S Tracks

The author's layout models the Pittsburgh area, but he had never actually been there in person. A trip with camera in hand allowed him to better model the area.

The Lowell & Southern Railroad

The idea and trackplan for the S-scale layout is based on a slightly-modified version of the real 5-mile shortline near Lowell, Illinois. Using a GE 44-tonner as the locomotive, the author describes operation, and the types of equipment that could be used on such a layout.
