The PRR L1 class has the 2-8-2 wheel arrangement (commonly referred to as a "Mikado"). On the Chartiers branch these were used for heavier freight, but weren't seen very often.
The PRR's Altoona Machine Shops built these locomotives starting in 1914, and later Baldwin Locomotive Works also built them. A total of 574 were built through to 1919. The boiler on these locomotives is identical to the ones on the K4 locomotives.
These locomotives had 62-inch driver wheels, 33-inch pilot wheels, 50" trailing wheels. The total coupled length was 82' (this is 15-3/8" in S-scale / 1:64).
These locomotives could produce 61,465 pound-feet of tractive effort.
